The Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und –prüfung, BAM) is a technical and scientific superior federal institution under the authority of Federal Ministry of Economics. The task of BAM is to promote the development of German economy. Its responsibilities are in the interacting fields of Materials – Chemistry – Environment – Safety.  BAM is involved in the interdependent and complementary. Research and development, Testing, analysis, approvals; Consultation and information. BAM has a total staff of over 1600 with over 1300 being technically qualified and skilled staff. BAM has an annual sales turnover of more than €110 million. The Division VIII.4 belongs to the Department VIII Non-destructive testing. The competence of the division centres on development, validation and application of sophisticated non-destructive testing methods for early identification of defects or damage.
